How to make fresh passion fruit juice (easy recipe)

by Alejandra & Warner

It is hot here in Sri Lanka. And as it’s smack in the middle of summer for many of you out there, we thought we’d share a refreshing drink we love making on the daily: passion fruit juice.

We had tried fresh passion fruit once before, and it was a sour experience. This is not the type of fruit you just cut in half and dig your spoon into. We were a bit unsure to try it once again, until we were instructed by locals to have it as a drink. And let me tell ya, it’s glorious!

Another added value, and something that is essential for us whilst traveling, is that it is really easy to make on the go.

Passion fruit might not be local to many people. We don’t suggest buying it if it has been shipped across the world, but if you happen to come across it in any of your travels, why not taste something new?

After all, that is one of the joys of traveling the world, experiencing fresh exotic produce right from the source.

So if you see this fruit, definitely try it out and make yourself a delicious passion fruit juice. And let us know if you liked it in the comments!

Ingredients

  • 3 ripe passion fruits. Wrinkled textured skin is an indicator of ripeness.
  • 2 table spoons of sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1 litre of water
  • ice cubes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cut the passion fruits in half and scoop the inside, including the seeds, into in a blender
  2. Add the sugar and blend well.
  3. Add the water to the blender* and mix.
  4. Put the juice in a jar/bottle**, add the ice cubes (passion fruit juice is best when drank cold), and you’re done.

Notes

*If you don’t have a blender don’t freak out. We found that even shaking the passion fruit, sugar and water in a bottle gives great taste. A blender just makes it more intense. **You can sieve the pits out, but we never do as we don't mind the added crunch and they are also very healthy.

Delicious made with Organic sugar or Honey. The vine grows in Hawaii and Florida beautifully on trellis or fence too. Exotic tropical favorite fruit for juice!
